GEO for law firms. Find the claim, check its source, record the correction.
An AI answer may confuse a firm, lawyer or practice area. The scope should capture the exact answer and compare its material claims with approved records before deciding what source can be corrected.

What changes for law firms
The same method as every GEO project. These are the parts we plan differently here.
- A factual baseline tied to the answerRetain the question, answer date and observation conditions. Record whether the answer names the firm, links to a source or makes a professional claim that needs review. Avoid turning one observation into a statement about every answer engine.
- Professional facts have an ownerCompare admissions, practice areas and office information with the register and firm records selected by the compliance owner. A directory discrepancy is a review task, not permission to rewrite a lawyer’s qualifications.
- Corrections need a destinationIdentify whether the disputed fact is on the firm site, an editable profile or a third-party source. Record the action possible at each location and the date a later answer is checked. A corrected source does not guarantee an updated answer.
What the observation needs to preserve
A repeatable question set and a verified fact record make an apparent error reviewable. The legal reviewer decides which professional statement can be used publicly.
Questions to agree with the firm
- Which firm handles [PRACTICE] in [JURISDICTION]?
- Who is the named lawyer for [APPROVED SERVICE]?
- Where is the firm’s operating office?
- What source supports the consultation or fee statement?
Evidence to compare
- The current professional register selected by the compliance owner.
- Firm-approved practice and office facts.
- The actual source URL cited in the recorded answer, when present.
- A dated record of source edits and unresolved third-party corrections.
Observe, verify and recheck the disputed claim
What happens, in order — and what you see at each step.
- Step 01Agree the question setChoose practice and jurisdiction questions that match the firm’s approved services. Record the intended observation conditions and what the baseline can and cannot represent.
- Step 02Capture the answerKeep the answer text, date and available source URLs. Separate a missing mention from an incorrect claim about identity, qualification or service scope.
- Step 03Resolve the source taskAssign each correction to the owner who can verify and change the relevant source. Third-party decisions and professional-record changes cannot be promised by the agency.
- Step 04Repeat the observationRecord the later answer under stated conditions and compare the specific claim. Keep source edits, answer changes and enquiries as separate observations rather than assuming a causal chain.
A claim record that separates correction from outcome
The example below is a review specification. It does not claim that a particular engine has published a false statement or that a correction campaign has already succeeded.
| Situation to check | Proposed scope | Boundary |
|---|---|---|
| The answer names another firm with a similar name | Record the identity mismatch and locate the actual source behind the statement, if one is supplied. | Do not count a confused identity as an accurate brand mention. |
| An answer states an unverified professional credential | Assign the claim to the compliance owner and compare the chosen professional record. | The marketing team does not infer admission or specialist status from an AI response. |
| The firm corrects an owned page | Record the approved change and its source URL, then schedule the agreed observation. | An edit is work completed; a changed answer remains a separate result. |
| The repeated answer has changed | Retain the new conditions and exact factual difference. | A different answer alone does not establish which edit caused it or whether it produced a new matter. |

What the first handover should make clear
- Deliver a claim-to-source register with responsibility assigned for each factual question.
- Separate professional records, owned-page edits and third-party correction requests.
- Document the repeat conditions instead of treating every different generated answer as a trend.
- Keep enquiry reporting outside the claim log so factual improvements are not relabelled as client acquisition.

Questions about GEO for law firms
01Does correcting our site guarantee a different AI answer?
No. The record can show a source correction and a later observation. The engine controls whether it retrieves, cites or uses that material.
02Can the agency certify a lawyer’s qualifications?
No. The firm’s compliance owner selects and approves the relevant professional evidence and the wording that may be published.
03How do you distinguish absence from misinformation?
A missing mention is a visibility observation. A disputed fact needs its own claim record, source comparison and reviewer decision.
04What is delivered if a third party will not edit its profile?
The report retains the discrepancy, contact or correction action and unresolved status. It does not invent a completed source correction.
