Share of Answer: who AI assistants recommend
Our report on brand visibility in AI answers. The same buying questions, asked in the same markets on the same engines every edition — so a change between editions means something.

- Which sources each engine cites for buying questions
- How answers change across markets and languages
- What the most-recommended brands have in common
- Full method, prompt list and a sample of the dataset
You’re on the list. We’ll send edition 1 the day it’s published. What’s next →
Results, written up step by step
How a scope was chosen, what shipped and what changed — measured the same three ways as every project.
Search terms, in plain words
The words we use in guides, scopes and reports — defined once, so everyone on your team reads them the same way.
- AEO
- Answer engine optimization: making content easy for search features and AI assistants to use as a direct answer.
- AI Overviews
- Google’s AI-generated summaries shown in search results, with links to the sources they draw on.
- Canonical URL
- The version of a page you ask search engines to treat as the main one when several URLs show similar content.
- Citation
- In AI answers, a link or named source the assistant shows to support what it says.
- Crawl budget
- How many URLs a search engine is able and willing to crawl on a site in a given period.
- E-E-A-T
- Experience, expertise, authoritativeness and trust — qualities Google’s quality rater guidelines ask raters to assess.
- Entity
- A distinct thing — a brand, person, product or place — that search engines and AI systems recognise and connect to facts.
- GEO
- Generative engine optimization: work aimed at being mentioned and cited in answers written by AI systems.
- Hreflang
- Markup that tells search engines which language or regional version of a page to show to which users.
- Indexation
- Whether a page is stored in a search engine’s index, and so eligible to appear in results.
- Search intent
- What a person is trying to get done with a query: learn, compare, buy or find a place.
- Share of voice
- In AI search, the share of tracked prompts where an assistant mentions or cites your brand rather than competitors.
How we write the Journal
Written by the people who do the work. Here is what every guide has to meet before it is published.
- 01One decision per guideEvery guide answers one question a team has to decide, and says when the answer changes.
- 02A worksheet in every guideA table or worksheet you can reuse, so the guide ends in a record, not just an opinion.
- 03Sources and datesClaims link to their source or to our own dated observations. Assumptions are labelled as assumptions.
- 04Reviewed, then re-datedGuides are checked when search changes. The date on every card is the last review.
- 05How we use AIAI helps with first drafts. People check and edit every text before it is published — native speakers for other languages — and every fact is checked against its source.
